 High School Art Assignments

High School Visual arts project assignments will be posted to this page with the most recent project at the top of the page.

Projects are due at the end of class on the day of the deadline.

Our main projects will be listed here, however we will complete skill building study sketches and drawings in between projects that will be part of your daily participation grade. Those exercises will not be listed here.

Students will also complete a semester long visual journal project. The details were provided in class. We will work on journals weekly to study new media and techniques to use in our larger projects.

Concept Art & Worldbuilding Project
Due Friday 9/11/2026

Students will use concept art and design methods to create a world and civilization that does not exist in real life.

Project Details

1. Start with thumbnail sketches and develop the theme of your world. What type of environment is it? Future, Past, Fantasy, Alien? Decide on the environment first then create a person who livers in that world.

2. We will watch a video resource on concept art, and I will provide some resources to give you ideas

3. Your finished drawing must include the environment and one character.

4. The finished piece will be done with mixed media using at least two different media.

5. Grading rubric will be discussed in class at start of the project

Art History Day

Picasso Portrait Classwork for 8/28/26

Line & Design Project
Due Wednesday 8/26/26

Students will create a free form line design using different line weights and patterns.

Project Details

1. We will study zentangle line patterns and how to use line, pattern, and vary the line weights in drawings.

2. Students will be given examples if free from designs using only line and pattern.

3. Students will create their own design after sketching several small thumbnail drawings.

4. Finished design must be finished in ink or permanent marker and different line weights must be used to add variety and interest.

5. Design can be black and white finished in pen or sharpie. you may add washes of color if you wish but it is not required.
